• The bottom sheet (CF - Coated Front) is coated on the front with a chemical that reacts with the dye.
• The middle sheet (CFB - Coated Front and Back) is coated on both sides.

When pressure is applied to the paper stack (like writing or printing), the microcapsules break and release the dye, which reacts with the chemical on the subsequent sheet, creating a duplicate image.
